Why PVC, and the four Hamptons styles

Hamptons is a white UV-stabilised PVC fence - not timber and not aluminium. There is nothing to rot, rust, warp or paint: it holds its colour, shrugs off the weather, and cleans up with a hose. The titanium-dioxide additive is what keeps it white in the sun.

There are four styles, so you can match the fence to the job:

Full Privacy - a solid tongue-and-groove wall, 1800mm high. The classic Hamptons privacy screen.
Combo - a solid privacy base with an open vertical-slat topper, 1800mm high. Privacy with a decorative finish.
Semi Privacy - a picket-top front fence, 1200mm high, on slimmer posts. Street appeal without walling the yard in.
3-Rail - an open post-and-rail (ranch) boundary, around 1350mm high. For long runs and paddock-style boundaries.

Every style comes as a flat-pack panel kit with matching gates, caps and posts.

How a Hamptons fence goes together

Posts first. Square PVC posts are concreted into footings at 2450mm centres (127mm posts for Full Privacy, Combo and 3-Rail; slimmer 102mm posts for Semi Privacy). On a slab or deck you can surface-mount them on a hidden galvanised base plate instead of digging.
Panels slot in. Each style is a flat-pack kit - rails, panels or pickets and U-channels - that slides into the pre-slotted posts. There is nothing to nail; the last bay is trimmed to fit.
Gates hang on gate posts. A gate needs a reinforced gate post on both sides. Full Privacy, Combo and Semi Privacy gates come pre-assembled; the 3-Rail gate is a flat-pack you build to width.
Cap it off. A press-on cap finishes every post - slimline, domical or English, or a solar light cap.
Exposed sites. A solid 1800mm fence catches wind. On an exposed block, an internal aluminium I-Beam stiffens the posts and the fence must be concreted in, not base-plated.

Heights, gates and what to check first

Hamptons is a boundary, privacy and front fence - it is not a swimming-pool safety barrier and does not meet pool-fence rules. If your fence forms part of a pool barrier, use the pool-fencing range instead.

Before you start, check for underground services (Dial Before You Dig), confirm your boundary, and check your council's fence-height rules - dividing-fence heights and front-setback limits vary by state and local council. For an exposed or cyclone-prone site, or a tall boundary fence, get engineering advice.

What is Hamptons fencing made of?
